The Asana Reference Manual (ARM) is an essential reference book for students of yoga who desire to deepen their knowledge of asanas, but the manual was designed for those who want to be yoga teachers. Scottie Bruch originally created the ARM when she was a student in SCHYS’ training program. When she showed what she had created to JJ, JJ recognized Scottie’s brilliance and the two of them worked together to create the ARM for all students. It has been through many editions since it’s inception, until today’s version which students love.
The beginning contains many charts of asanas categorized by Sanskrit names, English names, Strength & Flexibility, Effect on Energy (brahmana, langhana, samana), Effect on Spine, and more. Then there is a section on planning a practice including a class plan template. Then the asanas listed alphabetically by Sanskrit name, each with a photo and stick figure along with information about the asana that will help the student effectively prepare to do the pose and considerations about alignment, props, variations, etc.
The ARM is a companion aid for the online course sequence “Course Planning 1 through 6.” There are also index cards available (as a separate purchase) with the asanas in the ARM on each index card.
