Vagus Nerve: Applications in Yoga Therapy
Pre-Requisite: SCHYS Step 1 Recommended, but we’ll accept the SCHYS Foundations of Yoga Therapy..
Instructors: JJ Gormley, Kate Fleming, Sandra Loeffler
The vagus nerve is one of the cranial nerves with a great influence on the sympathetic and parasympathetic balance in the autonomic nervous system. This nerve is responsible for carrying the messages between the brain and many other parts of our body. The vagus nerve is involved in heart rate, blood pressure, constriction of the respiratory passageways, digestive organs, urinary organs and reproductive organs.
In this class we’ll discover the vast influence this cranial nerve has and what techniques and tools yoga therapy has to offer to restore vagal tone which can help with anxiety, depression, digestive issues, cluster headaches, memory, inflammation and so much more.
JJ Gormley will lead the class along with Kate and Sandra (currently students in the Yoga Therapy Training Program who have done their research paper on the vagus nerve and therefore have much to contribute this topic.
