In Yoga Therapy, Who's the Expert?

by JJ Gormley, MS, C-IAYT, E-RYT-500

Imagine you are in-session with a new client in your yoga therapy business. Your client is relaxing comfortably in that big corner chair. The sun is shining warmly through the windows. You both have your hands curled around a warm cup of tea.  You have dreamed of this moment, right?

Your client is sharing about the challenges she met this week and suddenly you have an urge to correct her, but you stop.  In yoga therapy, who’s the expert?

Hint: It’s not the Yoga Therapist!

That is right… one key principle of yoga therapy is that the client is the expert in their own life and experience. The Yoga Therapist is their partner, guide, or facilitator of change.
